About us

Part of something that matters

We started Drift in 2005 with a simple belief: IT support in schools has to be about more than fixing computers. It has to underpin teaching and learning.

Our story

The founders of Drift all started their careers working in and with schools, long before Drift existed. Early on, we worked for an inspirational headteacher who changed how we thought about our jobs.

She made us understand that if we were going to work in education, it had to be about more than fixing computers. We had to care about our outcomes and the difference our work made to teaching and learning. If we did that every day, we’d go home feeling part of something that mattered.

Around the office we call it underpinning teaching and learning. Drift was built on it, and it’s the first thing every new member of our team hears about.

We’ve never been chasing world domination or huge profits. We just want to put some good into the world, give the schools that work with us a service they can rely on, and give something back to education along the way.

Anyone can give you technical support. More importantly, you need to trust your provider.

Pete Morgan, Founder & Managing Director

What we believe

Teaching and learning comes first

We judge our work by its impact in the classroom. When the technology works, teachers can get on with teaching.

Honest advice

We explain why something is needed, and we’re mindful of school budgets. We’ll never try to sell you something you don’t need.

Relationships, not tickets

The same familiar faces visit your school, get to know your staff and stay with you for the long term.

Giving back to education

Through our apprenticeship programme and college placements, we help young people start careers in IT. Most of our senior team started with us as apprentices.

Built on recommendation

We don’t go in for splashy sales presentations or glossy brochures. Our growth has come almost entirely from recommendations and relationships. Some of the schools we work with have been with us since day one, and many more for over fifteen years.

Part of the Medhurst Group

Medhurst approached us after hearing good things about Drift from schools across the community. They have a fantastic reputation across the education sector, and they share our ethos and our passion for customer service.

We’re very proud of our company, our team and our brand, so working with a larger organisation that shares our values was an easy decision. For the schools and academies we support, it means the strength of a larger group behind us, a more advanced level of service and better prices on products, licensing and solutions, while keeping the local team who know them.

Like us, they understand the needs of schools and share our philosophy to ensure that schools get the best value and service from their investment in ICT. We like the way they do business.
